Lot was born in the Singleton District and resided with his parents in the Mt. Olive area after receiving his education at Mt. Pleasant School. After leaving school he worked on his father, Peter's farm and at the age of 19 years joined the A.I.F. He was killed in action between the 22nd and 27th July 1916 whilst serving with the 33rd Battalion in France. An article in the Singleton Argus Newspaper of Saturday 19th August 1916 read as follows; " A telegram from Colonel Luscombe, Victoria Barracks, has been received by Mr & Mrs Peter Andrews, of Dunolly, informing them that their son, Private Lot Andrews, of the 33rd Battalion, had been killed in France, in action, between 22nd and 27th July. The telegram conveyed to the bereaved parents the sympathy of their Majesties the King and Queen and the Commonwealth Government in the loss they and the army had sustained in the death of the late soldier. Private Andrews was almost 22 years of age, and enlisted some 18 months ago. He was born in the Singleton District and prior to leaving home had been employed on his father's farm. Flags were flown at half-mast in town when the sad news was made known." The death of Lot caused his brother Abel to enlist in the A.I.F. and he also served in France and in his words to get even with the loss of his brother.
