Stoker Petty Officer (SPO) John Grayson (Service No:21021) enlisted in the RAN on 2 March 1946 on HMAS Cerberus as an Assistant Steward. Promoted to Stoker, his service included HMAS Penguin, Sydney, Kuttabul and Waterloo. SPO Grayson was attached to HMAS Moreton at Discharge on 4 January 1946.
Jack was born in Fifeshire, Scotland in 1919, second of four children of Ernest Victor Grayson (b1880 in Kent, England) and Annie Douglas Gray (b1882 in Fifeshire, Scotland). Ernest and Annie married in Edinburgh in 1912, and Ernest served in the British Territorial Forces (Private; Service No:337009) in WWI. Ernest and Annie immigrated in 1926, arriving in Brisbane QLD on board the Sophocles with their children and living in Cairns before settling in Bundaberg in the early 1930s. Ernest worked as a Blacksmith in Cairns, Bundaberg and Ogmore via St Lawrence.
Jeck enlisted in the Navy at seventeen years of age, and in 1942 in Sydney married Lorraine Mary Muriel Schuh (b1920 at Mt Morgan, QLD) - Lorraine was working in Bundaberg as a Bookkeeper. Following his Discharge, Jack and Lorraine settled in Bundaberg, where they raised their family and Jack worked as an Engine Driver until his death in 1975. Lorraine died in 2015.
