'During the operations eas to YPRES on 19/21st September, 1917, Pte. PETTY was employed as Company Runner and guide and was of the utmost assistance, firstly in guiding the Company into position, then throughout the advance and after the first objective was gained, he continued to run messages and keep up communication which necessitated his being continuously in the open and always passing over the shell swept area in rear, regardless of personal safety.'

Son of John and Caroline PETTY, 82 Excelsior Road, Marrickville, NSW
John saw war service in France and was wounded on two occasions. He was awarded the Military Medal at Glencoe Wood for conspicuous service.
