John was living at Beenup, WA when he enlisted later named Byford.

Byford is a suburb on the south-eastern side of Perth, WA, originally  iit was gazetted under the name 'Beenup' in 1906. Beenup, originated from the Aboriginal name associated with Beenyup Brook.
