George Henry Whitbread was a great man, he was very brave to go to war at the age of 50 and 11 months. George was born in 1865. He was a miner and a painter, and had no military experience. He was a married man. George Henry Whitbread height was 5 feet and 6 and a half inches. He had a weight of 58kg, and he also has a chest measurement of 33.35 and a half inches. He also has very nice blue eyes and he also had grey hair.

George travelled initially to France, arriving in July 1916 with the 43rd Battalion. Over the next several months he alternated time with his unit with time in hospital. In July 1917 the decision was finally made to return him to Australia as overage and unable to physically keep up with the demands of soldiering.
