While on a visit to a friend in Arncliffe, Albert Henry Sloan, 24, a returned soldier, took his wife by the arm and led her into the yard. He drank something from a cup, and said, "You will pay everything.'' You know exactly what I mean, but don't let anyone in Kogarah pay anything." He then said he had taken poison. A doctor was called, but Sloan was dead before he arrived. It was stated at the inquest that Sloan had been suffering from shell-shock, and was erratic in his behaviour.
SLOAN.—Pte .Albert Henry Sloan (Anzac), died 14th November, 1918, dearly loved second son of Mrs. M. Sloan and late Ed. Sloan, aged 24 years.
