A maltster from Ballarat West, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Daw embarked with the 15th Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard HMAT Wiltshire on 7 March 1916.

On 1 August 1918 he was killed in action at Strazeele, France, aged 30.

His brother, 2043 Corporal William Daw, 9th Company, Army Service Corps, had previously died of wounds on 17 August 1915 in Egypt.
