Son of William Higgs and Johanna Allen Higgs of Adelong, NSW.
Had previously enlisted as William James Higgs but was declared a deserter on 20 March 1916. Then changed his name to Charles James Higgs and re-enlisted
Commenced return to Australia on 23 July 1918 aboard HT Karoola disembarking on 6 September 1918
