Leading Aircraftman Maxwell Charles Garlick (Service No:133388) enlisted in the RAAF on 27 April 1943 as an Aircraftman I at No 2 Recruting Centre Sydney - mustered as Guard. Promoted to LAC on 1 November 1943, he was attached to No 43 Squadron (Karumba, QLD), RAAF Station Point Cook, 94 Squadron (Castlereagh) and served in the Northern Territory (Darwin, Winneliie and Livingstone) in 1944/1945. LAC Garlick was attached to RAAF Base Garbutt at Discharge on 13 March 1946.
Max was born in Mornington, Victoria in 1925, third of four children of William (Jim) James Garlick (b1887 at Snapper Point (now Mornington), Victoria) and Laura Frances Pearson (b1896 in Lefroy, Tasmania). Jim worked in Mornington as a Labourer and Furnaceman in Melbourne before enlisting in the AIF in 1916. Following his Discharge, he and Laura married in Melbourne in 1921, and settled in Mornington where they raised their family and Jim worked as a Labourer and Fisherman.
Max was working as an Ice Hand in Sydney, NSW in 1943 when he enlisted in the RAAF. Following his Discharge, he was in Mornington, Victoria in 1947 when he married Jill Armstrong (b1923 in Drouin, Victoria). Max and Jill settled in Mornington where they raised their family and Max worked as a Printer and was a Volunteer Fireman. Max died in 1983 and Jill in 2000.
