Died on this date – 9th February…… Herbert Ernest Haydon was born at Wentworthville, Sydney, New South Wales in 1893.
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 20th August, 1915 as a 22 year old, single, Printer from Drew Street, Mays Hill, Parramatta, NSW.
Private Herbert Ernest Haydon, Service number 3315, embarked from Sydney, NSW on HMAT Euripides (A14) on 2nd November, 1915 with the 3rd Infantry Battalion, 11th Reinforcements.
He was taken on strength with 3rd Battalion at Tel-el-Kebir on 5th February, 1916.
On 13th February, 1916 Private Haydon was transferred to 55th Battalion from 3rd Battalion.
Private Haydon embarked from Alexandria on 19th June, 1916 on Caledonian to join B.E.F. (British Expeditionary Force). He disembarked at Marseilles, France on 29th June, 1916.
He was sent to School of Instruction (Gas) on 2nd September, 1916 & rejoined his Unit on 5th September, 1916.
On 2nd December, 1916 Private Haydon was sent to Lewis Gun School & rejoined his Unit on 10th December, 1916.
Private Haydon was On Leave of Absence from 13th January, 1917.
He was admitted to Military Hospital, Fulham, England on 27th January, 1917 while on leave to UK – cause – N.Y.D. (not yet determined).
Private Herbert Ernest Haydon died at 12.33 am on 9th February, 1917 at Military Hospital, Fulham, Hammersmith, England from Cerebro Spinal Fever.
He was buried in All Souls Cemetery, Kensal Green, London, England where 19 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
