Warrant Officer Milton Lawrence Dwyer (Service No:431992) enlisted in the RAAF at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne on 10 September 1943 as an Aircraftman II - mustered as Air Crew, re mustered as Wireless Operator. Promoted to Sergeant on 20 July 1944, he was attached to 1 and 7 Operational Training Units (OTU) and Heavy Bomber Replacement Training Unit (HBRTU) before serving in New Guinea (25 November 1944 - 10 January 1945). Promoted to Flight Sergeant on 20 January 1945, he was attached to 24 Squadron, embarking from Darwin for Morotai on 22 May 1945, and returning to the mainland on 12 August 1945. W/O Dwyer was attached to Air and Ground Radio School at Discharge on 19 February 1946. His father Lawrence also served with the RAAF in WWII.
Milton was born in Echuca, Victoria in 1925, eldest of two children of Lawrence (Lal) Hubert Dwyer (b1901 at Strath Creek in Murrindindi, Victoria) and Rosa Henrietta Ehret (b1898 in Rutherglen, Victoria). Lal was a Labourer in Wodonga and Rosa a Typist in Melbourne when they married in 1924, and settled in Moama, New South Wales. Lal was a Sawmill Worker before establishing a mixed perishable goods business in 1930. During WWII, whilst Lal served in the RAAF, Rosa managed the store and, following his Discharge, Lal worked as a Clerk, and was an Alderman.
Milton was a Bank Clerk with the English Scottish and Australian (ESA) Bank in Melbourne in 1943 when he enlisted in the RAAF. Following his Discharge, Milton returned to Melbourne, where he was working as a Bank Clerk in 1948 when he died.
