Clifford STYANT-BROWNE was born on 15th April, 1883 in Hobart, Tasmania

His parents were Frank STYANT-BROWNE & Emma Ann ELMES who married in June 1882 in Wimborne, Dorset, England and then moved to Tasmania

He enlisted in January 1902 in Hobart to serve as a Private in the 1st Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse in the Boer War and departed on 16th February, 1902 on the ship Manchester Merchant - he returned to Australia on 9th August, 1902 on the ship Drayton Grange

He enlisted on 10th April, 1916 as a Lieutenant to serve during WW1 and embarked on 28th August, 1916 from Adelaide on the HMAT Anchises with the 43rd Infantry Battalion, 3rd Reinforcements

He returned to Australia on 3rd May, 1919 on the ship Leicestershire and disembarked on 21st June 1919 & was discharged on 9th October, 1919

Clifford died on 20th July, 1957 in Heidleberg, Victoria and was cremated as the Fawkner Memorial Park in Victoria

He was awarded the Military Cross on 27th August, 1917

"For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when consolidating a forward position with his platoon.  Although exposed to very heavy machine gun and rifle fire, he successfully completed his task and it was due to his efforts that a strong hostile counter attacked was subsequently repulsed after the enemy had captured a forward position on his right flank

By his courage and determination he enabled a party to be organised to regain the lost position, thereby saving the situation"

Clifford married Gwendoline RATTEN in St Pauls Church in Stanley, Tasmania in 1909

His 2nd marriage was to Bessie OSBORNE in the Cairns Memorial Church in Melbourne in 1931

His 3rd marriage was to Esther GARDINER nee JACOB in Victoria in 1939
