Bunyip (Gawler, SA: 1863 - 1954) Friday 19 October 1917
Mr. and Mrs. James Berriman, of Gawler, have received official news that their son, Lt.-Cpl. Cliff Berriman, was killed in action on September 20 The deceased was 23 years of age. He received his education at the Gawler Public and High Schools, and enlisted in February, 1915. He left for Egypt in May of that year, and was taken ill at Gallipoli in September, suffering from enteric fever. After spending a period in England he rejoined his battalion in France, in July, 1916, and later was again sent to England as a sufferer from trench feet. He rejoined a third time in June last, and spent the last four months in fighting the enemy. Deceased was a keen sportsman, and whilst in Gawler was a member of the Lyric cricket club and the Central football club. He was also a member of the Todd- Street Methodist choir, and had a large circle of friends. Prior to enlisting L.-Cpl. Berriman was employed at Block 10 mine, Broken Hill, in the assaying department
