Also enlisted at Albury, NSW, in 1917 under the name of Robert Henry Foley and deserted from an isolation camp. Gave his date of birth as 21 August 1896 which was incorrect as he, as O'Bryan, was born on 21 August 1899.

Son of John O'Bryan and Mary Jane O'Bryan nee Cooper of Loch Street, Coburg, Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 15 June 1919 aboard HT Essex disembarking on 25 July 1919
