Address given at the time of enlistment was given as Latrobe Street, Melbourne, Victoria. Prior to coming to Australia Mattew served in the Territorials for three years. His tailor apprenticeship of five years was with Dawbarn & Sons of Wisbeach, England.
Son of Jerimaih Stubbs and Deborah Ada Osbourne nee Woolston of Welby Place, Nursbrook, Sheffield, England.
Husband of Mabel Osbourne nee Milson of 'Sunnyview', Espanade, Weymouth, England. Matthew and Mabel married on 25 October 1916 in the Weselan Methodist Church, Weymouth, England. Rev. Joseph B. Gratton officiated.
Commenced return to Australia on 25 March 1919 aboard HT Port Denison disembarking on 10 May 1919
