Harold [also spelt Harrold} was the son of Johann and Auguste Schulz [nee
Wegener] of Milendilla. Harold arrived in England on board HMAT A60 Aeneas
on 11 April 1916 and was sent to France with his battalion, where at Etaples
on 25 August he was, “Despatched to England as advisable in the exigencies
of the service, being of enemy extraction, on approval of GOC 2nd Anzac.”
However, Harold was sent back to France from Folkestone on 20 March 1917.
In April he spent a week in hospital with mumps. On 3 November Harold was
admitted to hospital in France after being diagnosed with having defective
vision / conjunctivitis. He rejoined his unit in England on 18 December. He
returned to Australia and was discharged on 21 October 1919.
