Served and suffered during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

55 years ago today, on the 4th August 1965, Private Harold Cyril Sadler, 35th Battalion, pastry packer (Great Northern Bread Company, Hamilton, N.S.W.), from 138 Maitland Road, Islington, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 68. ANGLICAN 2-116. 59.

Born at Wickham, New South Wales on the 15th March 1897 to William David and Anora Sadler; husband of Hilda Florence C Sadler nee Lauer (married 1918, Newcastle, N.S.W., died 1972), Harold enlisted January 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Wounded in action - 7.6.1917 (GSW face, Battle of Messines - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article134868264), Mr Sadler returned home February 1918, being discharged on the 21st March 1918.

Harold’s name has been inscribed on the Wickham Municipal District Roll of Honour Board (1), unveiled on the 26th February 1916 (photo courtesy of Ed Tonks, O.A.M.). Unsure why Harold’s name has not been inscribed on the Wickham Superior Public School Roll of Honour.
