Biography

"RIDER SEVERELY INJURED.  Horse Falls on Him Twice.

Francis James Pegg, farmer, of Warrill View, received a fractured pelvis and severe shock yesterday when the horse he was riding put its foot into a hole and fell on him. It got up,
then fell on him again. Pegg was admitted to the Ipswich General Hospital later in a serious condition. Pegg was on his way home when the accident occurred. The Boonah Ambulance bearers rendered first aid and took him to the Harrisville Hospital. Later, under doctor's orders, Ipswich bearers brought him to the Ipswich Hospital. Pegg was riding his horse across a lucerne paddock to put out some cows that were being grazed there. While it was cantering his horse put its foot into the hole, causing it to somersault for a considerable distance and fall across its rider. The horse returned without saddle or rider, the girth being broken. Pegg's wife, looking in the direction he had gone, could see him
lying on the ground unable to move, and she immediately sought help." - from the Queensland Times 23 Feb 1940 (nla.gov.au)
