Reuben was reported as killed in action on 3 August 1916 but had no known grave. His remains were discovered in 1936 near Pozieres, identified by the presence of his identity disc. His father was still alive when he was sent the news and the identity disc by the Commonwealth War Graves in 1938. He was buried in the London Cemetery and Extension, Longueval, France, about six kilometres from Pozieres.
His father stated in his War Gratuity application that his name was ‘Trevor Reynolds’ but he had enlisted under the name Reuben Richard Reynolds.
His older brother, 3130 Pte. George Frederick Reynolds 6th Battalion AIF, had enlisted in Melbourne and was killed in action in the Battle of Menin Road in Belgium.
They were the sons of James and Annie Reynolds of Zeehan, Tasmania.
