The following is a copy of a letter received by Mr. R. Tune from Driver Bert Parham, who is in France, dated December 6, 1917: "I am writing this whilst the big guns of both sides are very active, and we are not very far away from the scene of action. I must thank you for the parcel of cigarettes and socks re- ceived somo time ago. I was sorry to hear that so many of the old hands were put off at the shop. I wouldn't mind getting a job there when I come back, which I hope will not bo long now. We are getting winter here prop- erly now. I expect we will have plenty of snow directly. That is the time for snowballing. It is great fun, especi- ally when you get a large handful thrown at you and it hits you fair be- tween the eyes. Is Mr. J Guy still in the S.T. Co. shop? If so, please remember me to him. By what I can see of Australia by the different letters received, it is all strikes, but I suppose they will all end some time or other. I have not seen anything of Ike Bailey or Arthur Phillips yet. There are a lot of Broken Hill boys in my company. The hills around Broken Hill must look lovely covered with Sturt peas. I wish I was up there again to have a look round the old place. I was pleased to see the Wests went top of the football list."
