Biography contributed by Saint Ignatius' College

William Vincent Virgo was a British man who joined the military at the age of 49 during World War I. He was 5'11 tall and weighed 62.2kg. He had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and grey hair. Before joining the military, he had worked for 15 years in the 12th Lances as an Engineer. He was a natural-born British citizen, born in Tiverton, Devonshire, England, and was affiliated with the Church of England. He was married to Mary Virgo, who was listed as his next of kin. His decision to join at an older age and his previous experience as an engineer suggest that he was determined to contribute to the war effort in any way possible. Like many others of his generation, his willingness to serve in the military demonstrated his commitment to his country and the cause for which it was fighting. He enlisted himself in 24/9/1915.
