Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Roy was one of two sons of Kathleen Maisie Cheverton who lost their lives during WW1. The father, William Cheverton, drowned in the Derwent River in Tasmania during 1902 when the Cheverton brothers were very young boys.
His younger brother, 828A Pte. John Thistle Raymond Tod Cheverton D. C. M. 5th Battalion AIF, was later killed in action 23 August 1918, aged 23.
His mother filled out Roy's roll of honour form, ‘Cricketer, footballer, boxer, a champion left hand bowler, great sportsman.’
“I could write on for ever about this boy. I think you can judge from the above, what sort of character he was.”- mother.
