Died on this date - 9th November......Gunner Roy Douglas Keane Cheverton was born in Hobart, Tasmania on 1888. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 17th August, 1914 as a 26 year old Labourer.

Gunner Cheverton joined M.E.F. (Mediterranean Expeditionary Force) on 4th April, 1915. He was admitted to Hospital at Malta on 19th July, 1915 & transferred to England. He was admitted to King George’s Hospital, Stamford Street, London on 30th August, 1915.

Gunner Roy Douglas Keane Cheverton died at 1.30 am on 9th November, 1915 at Millbank Hospital, London, England from Gangrenous Enteritis. He was buried in All Souls Cemetery, Kensal Green, London, England where 19 other WW1 Australians are buried.

Roy was one of two sons of Kathleen Maisie Cheverton who lost their lives during WW1. The father, William Cheverton, drowned in the Derwent River in Tasmania during 1902 when the Cheverton brothers were very young boys.

His younger brother, 828A Pte. John Thistle Raymond Tod Cheverton D. C. M. 5th Battalion AIF, was later killed in action 23 August 1918, aged 23.

His mother filled out Roy's roll of honour form, ‘Cricketer, footballer, boxer, a champion left hand bowler, great sportsman.’
