From Ian Fletcher

Lieutenant Charles Hannaford 17th Battalion A.I.F.

After the Battle of the Menin Road attack on the 20th September 1917, the remains of an officer of the 17th Battalion A.I.F. thought to have been identified as that of Lieut. Charlie Hannaford was reburied in The Buttes Cemetery at Polygon Wood with a named headstone
In December 1925 two bodies were found in an isolated grave between the edge of Polygon Wood and Garter Point (the 17th's objective) and both could be identified, one being Private Arthur Bramall and the other being Charlie Hannaford, they were both reburied in The Divisional Collecting Post Cemetery Extension in Ypres, the headstone in the Buttes Cemetery was replaced and sadly the remains became 'A Soldier of the Great War, Known unto God'
Private Arthur Bramalls name appears still to this day on Panel 17 at the Menin Gate in Ypres
17th Battalion A.I.F. 'Not Forgotten'
