Before emigrating ,  he lived at Aghaviller- Aghaviller gives its name to the wider townland, civil parish, and electoral district and is located south-east of Kilkenny, about six miles south of Thomastown near Knocktopher.

Embarked Fremantle, 22 November 1915; joined 11th Battalion, Habieta, Egypt, 2 March 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 29 March 1916; disembarked, Marseilles France, 3 April 1916.

Admitted to 1st Australian Field Ambulance (shell shock, shrapnel wound left arm), 20 July 1916; transferred to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station, 25 July 1916; admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Rouen, 26 July 1916; to England, 27 July, 1916; admitted to Graylingwell War Hospital, Chichester, West Sussex, England, 28 July 1916-At the outbreak of the First World War, the asylum was requisitioned to serve as a Military Hospital and the inmates were relocated to other asylums in the area. Casualties began arriving on 24 March 1915 directly from the Western Front, via train from Dover. The hospital was returned to civilian use in 1919 following a solemn ceremony during which the last patients left to the sound of the Last Post.

Discharged to Perham Downs Command Depot, 2 September 1916.

Admitted to Brimstone Bottom Hospital (influenza), 1 October 1916; to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, 13 October 1916; marched into Weymouth Command Depot, 25 November 1916; reported on strength, 12 December 1916; proceeded overseas to France from Folkestone, 24 January 1917; joined 1st Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, France, 25 January 1917; struck off strength, 28 January 1917; rejoined 11th Battalion 7 February 1917.

Admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance (bronchitis), 15 March 1917; discharged to duty, 20 March 1917; rejoined Battalion 21 March 1917.

Admitted to 6th Field Ambulance (gun shot wound right knee), 5 May 1917; to Casualty Clearing Station, 5 May 1917; to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 6 May 1917.
