David Carpenter was born in Houghton, South Australia. He was the son of Mary Ann Carpenter who was listed to have all his possessions if David had died during the war, which he did not.
When he enlisted David did not have a spouse nor did he have any children. He was occupied as a gardener. David enlisted on October 9th 1916 and was placed in the 50th Battalion, 9th Reinforcement. His unit departed Australia, Adelaide, on 10/02/17.
He spent a lot of time in hospital sick. After the war David Carpenter received three medals for his service, the three medals all soldiers earned for their service and contribution in the war; The 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
