The son of James and Elspeth Stuart, of Easter Scalan, Glenlivet, Ballindalloch, Banffshire, Scotland. Robert came out to Australia when he was 17 years of age, during 1914.
His elder brother 242167 Private Charles Stuart 5th Battalion Gordon Highlanders, was killed in action 17 May 1917, age 34.
Both are remembered on a WW1 tablet memorial in the foyer of the Chapeltown of Glenlivet Roman Catholic Chapel, Scotland.
