Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Frank Edward ‘Teddy’ Lloyd drove a motor lorry for Johnson and Sons, boot manufacturers, of Brisbane, Queensland, prior to enlisting.

He was the son of Edward Gray Floyd and his mother, Julia, had died in 1901 when Frank was only seven years of age.

Frank joined the 47th Battalion on the Western Front during July 1917. He was wounded on 20 August 1917 with shrapnel to the side and back. He spent several months recovering in France and rejoined the 47th Battalion in late October 1917.

He was serving with the unit on 28 March 1917 when they were heavily attacked by large German forces near Dernancourt. Lloyd was said by witnesses to have been killed instantly by shell fire during the afternoon of the 28 March 1918.

After the war his roll of honour form was not filled out. His medals and entitlements were awarded to an older sister, Agnes, after she informed Base Records that she had raised her brother from childhood, and the father never lived with them.

Frank at least has a grave, his body was originally buried in Henencourt Wood British Cemetery, about 7km behind Dernancourt, until it was concentrated into the Ribemont Communal Cemetery Extension.

Frank also had a death notice placed in the Brisbane newspapers by his fiancé, Miss Ida Price.
