C. A. M. DERHAM enlisted on 3rd March and embarked as Lieutenant in 29th Battalion on 10th November 1915. He arrived in Egypt on
12th December and upon transfer to France took part in the Battle of Fleurbaix and the Somme Campaign in 1916-17 being promoted to
Captain on 6th September 1916 and being wounded on 2nd March 1917 in face and hand and remaining a casualty for three months. In
the latter part of 1917 he took part in third Battle of Ypres including the Battles of Polygon Wood and Passchendaele and was on 1st January 1918 awarded M.C. In 1918 he took part in the Battle of Amiens, the advance to Hindenburg Line and the Breaking of it and the Battles of Bellicourt, Nauroy and others up to Armistice. After Armistice his 29th Battalion became merged into 32nd Battalion. He returned to Australia on 31st May and his appointment was terminated on 23rd July 1919.
