Add my storyBiography contributed by Charles Campbell College
Alasdair (Alistair) Keith Wilson was born in 1899 in Essex, England and served in WWI for Australia.
He was five foot eleven, 150 lbs, had a 34.5-inch chest and had brown hair and eyes. World War I was the first and only ever military based operation he had ever taken part in, although his service records indicate he had been a part of the 'Citizen's Force' while growing up. Given his age at enlistment (18 years), he may have been in the cadets from 14-18 years of age, rather than the Commonwealth Miliary Forces. Young men between the ages of 18-25 were required to register with the home defence militia but Alasdair had only turned 18 shortly before he enlisted.
Before he joined the war, family stories indicate that he was interested in working with children/youth. He was well known for having great patience and understanding for kids and had abilities and talents for children’s entertainment before and after the war.
He enlisted on the 22 of February 1917. Alasdair embarked on 22 of December 1917 on HMT A38. He was stationed in the 32nd Australian Infantry Battalion and he was a ranked Private during WWI. While taking part in WWI, Alasdair was known for having great skill with bolt action rifles and other weapons like muskets and canons. It was said that he had a special talent with artillery. Alasdair's record indicates that he was gassed several times during his time at the front and wounded in July 1918.
Alasdair had a successful tour in WWI and came home safely in 1919.
There are no further details or information about his death, but he was not killed in the war.
