Son of Alfred Dixon COATES and Mary Ann COATES nee SHARP

Husband of  of Mrs Emma Alice COATES nee PLUMRIDGE, Abercrombie Street, Deepdene, Victoria and later residing at Georgiana St., Sandringham, Vic.

Fighting at Gallipoli he suffered shell shock and was admitted to H.S. Gascon on 09 July 1915, and transferred to St. George's Hospital Malta.  Discharged from hospital to All Saints Convalescent Depot 06 August 1915 and was fit for active service again on 2 December 1915.

12 Feburary 1916 saw him admitted to No. 1 A.S. Hospital Ismailia with Scarlatina and transferred to No 4. Aux. Hosptial, Abbassia.  He also suffered from Tonsilitis.

Reported as missing in action, Reginald was taken prisoner of war in WWI at Reincourt, Bapaume on 11 April 1917 and interned in Soltau Prison Camp, Germany where he enduried the horrors of being held Prisoner of War for nearly 2 years.

Repatriated, he left for England for return to Australia 17 March 1919 per H.T. Plassy.

Disembarking in Melbourne 30 April 1919 he suffered Malaise two days prior.

Discharged from the A.I.F. at Melbourne 18 August 1919 as medically unfit with a Metallic fragment in the Arm.

Reginald enlisted in WW2 serving in Australia.  At this time hes address was listed as Lalors Road, Healsville, Vic.
