John Mclean RAE was born in Mackay, Queensland on 3rd July, 1895

His parents were Thomas Browning RAE & Margaret Jane McLEAN

He had previously served for 4 years in the Cadets and 3 years in the Light Horse before he enlisted in Rockhampton on 28th February, 1916 and embarked on 8th August, 1916 on the HMAT Itonus with the 9th Infantry Battalion, 19th Reinforcements

John died of pneumonia in France on 17th February, 1917 and is buried in the Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension & his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial
