OBITUARY - MR. ALBERT E. V. JONES.
The death occurred at the Grafton Base Hospital of Mr. Albert Edward Victor Jones, aged 56, of Deep Creek, Ulmarra.
The late Mr. Jones will be remembered in racing circles as the owner of Verdonia. He also went in for blood stock breeding until a year ago. He has always been most interested in horse racing.
Deceased, who was born at Chatsworth Island, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jones, of Chatsworth Island. He was educated at the Chatsworth Public School.
He left the Clarence as a young man and went to Queensland, later returning to the Tweed River to be employed at the Condong sugar mill, where he remained for several years.
The late Mr. Jones enlisted from Condong in the First A.I.F., serving three years overseas. He returned to the Tweed River after the war, came to the Clarence River and married Miss Elsie Morris in 1921, after which he settled at Ulmarra.
He was predeceased by his son, Charles Edward, A.I.F., who was accidentally killed while on active service. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, his daughter Lorraine, and his sons Reece, Ben and Ted, all of Ulmarra. Brothers are Percy (Sydney), Benjamin (Queensland) and Gordon (Lower River). Sisters are Edina (Western Australia), Mabel (Granville) and Gwen and Jean (Sydney). – The Daily Examiner, Grafton, issue dated Saturday December 29, 1946.
