Served bravely during The Great War, resting peacefully at Sandgate Cemetery.

88 years ago today, on the Monday afternoon of the 10th April 1933, Sergeant Henry Victor H Sheldrick, M.M. (served as SHELRIGE-Harry Leonard, 12th Australian Light Horse Regiment, Reg No-377), station hand and shunter from 37 Best Street, Wagga Wagga, New South Wales and Tourle Street, Mayfield, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 45. METHODIST 4-03. 39.

Born at Albury, New South Wales on the 24th May 1887 to Henry A and Elizabeth J Sheldrick; husband of Amelia Josephine Sheldrick nee Haynes (married 1921, Waratah, N.S.W., died 1977, 44 years a widow), Harry enlisted January 1915 at Liverpool, N.S.W.

Reported enlisting as SHELRIGE.
Wounded in action - 25.9.1918 (GSW right knee, slight). Admitted to hospital 16.12.1917 (pyrexia).
Awarded Military Medal 15.10.1918.

Harry returned home May 1919, not being discharged until the 28th October 1919.

Mr Sheldrick’s name has been inscribed on The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall. Name not inscribed on the Wagga Wagga & District War Memorial or any known district War Memorial or Roll of Honour.

Mr Sheldrick’s headstone has been clearly and proudly inscribed with his service with the 1st A.I.F., and I have placed poppies to honour his bravery and sacrifice for God, King and Country.
