Corporal Alex Charles Cameron (Service Nos:V100770/VX117778) initially served in the Militia and ACMF (31 January 1939 - 16 August 1942) as a Private attached to 38th Battalion and 17th Machine Gun Battalion, and was at Adelaide River in the Northern Territory on 17 August 1942 when he enlisted in the AIF. Corporal Cammeron was attached to 10 Australian Machine Gun Battalion on 23 March 1945 when he embarked with his Unit from Townsville for Torokina on board the Ormiston. WiA on 12 June 1945, Corporal Cameron emplaned from Bougainville for Townsville on 7 August 1945, and was attached to 19 Machine Gun Battalion at Discharge on 28 November 1945.

Alex was born in Dandenong, Victoria in 1914, second of five children of Alfred George Cameron (b1890 at Ferntree Gully, Victoria) and Agnes (Doll) Sarah Luxford (b1892 in Sale, Victoria). Alfred and Doll married in 1912 in Melbourne, and settled in Dandenong where they raised their family and Alfred was a Labourer.

Alex worked as a Shop Assistant and Grocer in Kyabram via Echuca before enlisting in the Army. In 1944 in Willaura he married Ruby Grace (aka Grace) Walker (b1916 in Willaura, Victoria). Following his Discharge, Alex and Grace lived in Tongala and Sebastopol via Ballarat, where they raised their family and Alex was a Shop Assistant and Commercial Traveller until his death in 1975. Grace died in 2003.
