Biography contributed by Michael Silver

Private Thomas Arthur James Ede was born and educated at Coopernook, New South Wales, being one of ten children of Ebenezer and Rosina Jane Ede (nee Cross) of Cundletown. He enlisted at Cundletown in 1915 and was training at Newcastle for a few weeks before going to Liverpool Camp in Sydney.

He was sent to France, via Egypt, and took part in the Battle of Pozieres. Suffering from shell shock, he was transferred to the Lord Derby War Hospital, Warrington, England and remained there for six months. On his recovery he returned to France, after a few weeks’ furlough, and was killed in action in the battle of Messines Ridge, on 9 June 1917.
