Biography

"...3491 Trooper Cecil Walter Newton, 6th Australian Light Horse Regiment. A farmer of Canowindra, NSW, Tpr Newton enlisted on 13 March 1917 and embarked for overseas service in November the same year. Trooper Newton was a tall man at 6' 1" and on arrival in Egypt was transferred to the Anzac Provost Corps. In March 1918 he was transferred to the Railway Construction Unit. In July of that year he suffered a severe bout of appendicitis, requiring hospitalisation. he saw no further service, returning to Australia on 1 January 1919." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
