Obituary - MR F. E. DOWLEY

A lifelong resident of Blayney, Mr Francis Edward Dowley, died at his home in Palmer Street Carly on Sunday morning. He had been in ill health for a lengthy period.

The late Mr. Dowley, who was 63, was born at Blayney.

"Dusty", as he was familiarly known, served in World War II, being a member of the 8th Division, 2nd/30th Battalion, and was taken a prisoner-of-war in Malaya.

His funeral took place at Blayney on Wednesday morning, and after a service at ST. James' Church interment was made in the Catholic portion of the cemetery.

Rev. Father M. J. Murphy officiated at the Church and Graveside.

Members of the Blayney Sub-Branch of the R.S.S & A.I.L.A formed a guard of Honer at the Church and the President of Blayney Sub-Branch of the R.S.S & A.I.L.A Digger Joe Cowan, gave the R.S.L Service at the graveside, assisted by the Secretary (Digger C. Thomson).

In a feeling tribute Digger Cowan said he had spoken to a number of Pte. Dowley's fellow prisioners-of-war and all highly praised him for the unselfish way in which he risked his life to assist mates who were sick or wounded.

Bugler W. Abbott sounded The Last Post and Reveille.

Funeral arrangements were carried out by Godfrey Smith
