Son of John Henry and Annie Martha Marley; husband of Georgina Maud Marley, of Newcastle, New South Wales

He was one of six members of 9 Squadron posted to HMAS Sydney to fly and maintain the ship's aircraft. Sgt Marley was killed in action during the HMAS Sydney's engagement with the German auxiliary cruiser HSK Kormoran on 19 November 1941. He was aged 29.
