Trooper Redding enlisted from Benalla, Victoria, on the 28th of August 1915, stating his age to be 44. He was in fact 57 making him nearly 61 at the time of this photograph and one of the oldest enlisted men in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF).
'The Age' newspaper (Melbourne) dated Saturday the 10th of August, 1935.
Redding – On the 6th August, at Beulah (suddenly). George (Dad), beloved husband of the late Isabella, and son of the Thomas and Ellen Redding, Samaria, late 8th Light Horse Regiment, AIF, aged, 78.

Believed to be the oldest survivor, of the Great War, Mr. George Redding, of Beulah, 78 years, collapsed on Tuesday night at the Beulah Catholic ball after having taken part in an old-time dance, and died within a few minutes. Mr. Redding, who was also a Boer War veteran, served in the 8th Regiment of the Light Horse in Egypt and Palestine. He enlisted at the age of 60, but gave his, age as 45. He was one of the most widely known residents of the Southern Mallee.
GEORGE REDDING, 79, who died on Tuesday evening at Beulah, was a member of the Eighth Light Horse Regiment, and served in the Palestine campaign. He was the oldest soldier to march in the last Anzac Day procession in Melbourne, and was one of the original members of the Victorian Mounted Rifles' when that regiment was founded by the late Colonel Tom Price.
