Military Medal
On the moving of 6th May 1917 in operations East of Bullecourt he commanded a post which was attacked by the enemy. Bombs were thrown inflicinting several casualties but the enemy continued the attack and Fordham led his men in a bayonet charge & then back, holding up other attacks later in the day by the effective use of rifle grenades. He was wounded at his post about mid-day.
The news of the death of Mr. T. W. Fordham, which occurred early on Saturday morning at the Public Hospital, was much regretted. Deceased, who was only 31 years of age, was the second oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Fordham, of Lawrence Vale, and was widely known and popular, especially, amongst the racing cyclists. He gained much success on the northern tracks. In 1915 he departed for the great war with the 26th Battalion, A.I.F., gaining the Military Medal for bravery at Bullecourt, and was later promoted to sergeant, returning home after four years' service wounded. The remains were, interred at Carr Villa yesterday afternoon, the cortege being a lengthy one.
The pallbearers were Messrs. W. Ahearne, jun., R Hennesby, F Freen and A.J. Cartwirght, while Rev. G Rowe, B.A. officiated at the graveside. Deceased leaves a widow and young son.
FORDHAM.--In loving memory of Sergeant Thomas William Fordham, who died on the 26th July, 1924. (Late 12th Battallon; A.I.F.)
Sweet is the sunshine after rain,
Sweet is the sleep that follows pain;
A loving thought, a secret tear,
Will keep his memory ever dear.
