Thomas Hislop is the son of James and Mary Hislop of Churhill. He was on holiday in England when he joined the 12 th Battalion Royal Scots Regiment as a Piper. He may have had Imperial Reservist obligations. He was killed in action in Belgium. He is named on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Sadly he is not named on the Commemorative Roll. You will find him mentioned in “Queenslanders Who Fought in the Great War”. He is recorded on the Ipswich Soldier’s Memorial Hall Honour Board, the Churchill Honour Stone, the St Stephen’s Church Ipswich Honour Board and the Ipswich Rechabites Honour Board. His family at Churchill have his bagpipes which were returned to his parents in an explosives box. He had been in action for 14 months when he was killed.
