Major George Henry Kaufmann (Service Nos:79050000/165906/716/DX100/VP3579) enlisted in the Australian Army on 27 November 1929 and was a Major with 2/3 Field Regiment when he Discharged on 31 August 1967. In WWII he served in Crete, Libya and Greece. He was one of six siblings who served in WWII.
Born in 1911 in Melbourne Victoria, Harry was the eldest of eight children of Henry Kaufmann (b1884 in Box Hill, Victoria) and Mary Ann May Pigdon (b1882 in Queenscliff, Victoria). Henry was a Farmer when he enlisted in the Boer War (Trooper; Service No:867) and a Clerk in 1911 when he and Mary married in Queenscliff, Victoria. Henry enlisted in the AIF in 1916 and remained in the Army. He served in WWII (Major; Service No:V159890) and died in 1944.
Harry was eighteen years of age when he enlisted in the Army in 1929 and was posted in Darwin NT in 1937. Following WWII Harry remained in the Army and was based in Melbourne, Victoria in 1948 when he married Alice Emily (a Typist). Following his Discharge in 1967, Harry and Alice settled in Melbourne where Harry was a Company Director. Harry died in 1987.
