THE LATE MR. REGINALD JAMES ELLIS.
The funeral of the late Reginald James Ellis took place on July 1 last. His remains, enclosed in a polished casket, were interred in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Karrakatta, the Rey. Father Lyons conducting the last rites. Deceased, who was 33 years of age, was born in Athlone, Ireland, and had resided in this State 18 years. His mother lives in England. He arrived from England with his father (an Indian Army officer, who resigned his office to settle in Western Australia) to take up farming in thp Denmark district. Still very young, he had the misfortune to lose his father, but persisted in the farming pursuits, finally settling in Bridgetown. At the outbreak of the war he enlisted with the 11th Battalion, saw active service in Egypt and France, and was invalided home in June, 1917. After many operations he realised (particularly through a badly smashed arm) that he would never again be able to take on farming, and whilst still an inmate of the Menzies Military Hospital, he took up study. Before being discharged from hospital he passed the Commonwealth public examination, and whilst waiting an appointment he was on the military administrative staff, which he left to take up a permanent position in the Federal Taxation Department. Some time later his injuries again caused him to go into hospital. The chief mourners at the funeral were Miss Weinsberg (fiancee), Mr. and Mrs. A. F. White, Mrs. Bock. Among those present were Messrs. Elsogood (representing Civil Service Club), McDougall (representing Hostel Manly, Cottesloe), White, Levinson, Luth, Manning, Mesdames White, Allan, Bate, Bockelberg.
Floral tributes were received from:— His devoted fiancee, Tilly Weinsberg; Mrs. Weinsberg, Min and Little Gordon, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. White, Mrs. Levinson and family, the Luth Family, Mr. and Mrs. J. Forbes, Mr. and Mrs. David Allan and family, staff of Levinson and Sons, Mrs. Weiss and family, members of Civil Service Club, Mr. and Mrs. Bate and family, Maude and Arthur Maltby (Sydney). Numerous telegrams, letters and cards of sympathy were received by his bereaved fiancee. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. C. H. Smith and Co., of 281 Newcastle-street, Perth.
