Peter was conscripted in the first National Service Ballot in 1965 and was called up in June 1965 and was also a member of the first intake. He completed Initial Employment Training at Kapooka NSW and was allocated to the Royal Australian Electrical and Mecahnical Engineers. His rank was a Craftsman.
He served in the Light Aid Detachment of 110 Light Anti-Aircraft Battery, 4RAR Group.
