Awarded the Air Force Cross
Lieutenant Thomas Gilbert, Royal Air Force, son of Mr. W. Gilbert, Pewsey Vale, writes to his parents from Lahora, India:— ''You may have seen my name in
the honors list for the Air Force Cross. It was awarded for work in the air under peace conditions; that is, not up against hostile fire or machines. At the out break of war Lieutenant Gilbert was Deputy Director of Agriculture in the Bombay Presidency. In 1916 he was allowed to join the Indian Army Officers' Reserve, and was attached to the 27th Indian Light Cavalry. (Early in 1917 he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps, trained in Egypt and England, and on gaining his 'wings' received orders for India, where his services are still retained.
