Jimmy was conscripted in February 1968, he completed his Recruit training at 1 RFB and was transferred to 3 RTB for his Corps training. Jimmy was posted to Assault Pioneers, Support Company 5 RAR and deployed to South Vietnam on 8 February1969. On 14 August he was WIA receiving shrapnel wounds. Jimmy was returned to Australia on 3 December 1969 to complete his National Service commitment.
