Was on Seaking 07 performing a medevac of a GSW victim when it was hit twice by small arms fire from the ground. |

| 27 Dec 2004: | Involvement Royal Australian Air Force, Wing Commander, O325130, Operation Tsunami Assist - response to the 2004 Boxing Day Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Specialist member of RAAF Critical Care Aeromedical Evacuation Team. Initially part of RAAF Air Lift Group / 36 SQN response under the command of GPCAPT John Oddie. WGCDR Griggs was on the first C130 to land inBanda Aceh post tsunami. Along with WGCDRs Allan MacKillop, Greg Norman, and Geoff Robinson, WGCDR Griggs undertook an initial health needs assessment for Banda Aceh which resulted in a massive Australian and International response. Subsequently the ADF response became CJTF 629. In the initial days of the response WGCDR Griggs led a joint multinational triage facility at Banda Airport for both inbound and outbound patients. He was sunsequently involved in triage, treatment and the aeromedical evacuation of multiple patients. For his work he was awarded a Chief of Deefnce Force Commendation. | |
