Husband of Madge Thelma MATTHEWS, 221 James Street, Perth, WA

The funeral of the late James Albert Lawrence Matthews, of the 5th. reinforcements of the 44th Battalion, Belmont, took place ori the 19th inst., with military honours. The  deceased, who was in his 24th year, died at the. No. 8 Australian "General Hospital, Fremantle, on the 17th inst. Formerly he was a jockey, and was well known, in racing circles. A wife and son survive him.
The remains were interred in the Catholic portion of Karrakatta Cemetery. Chaplain the Rev. Father P. McBride, assisted bv the Rev. Father Masterson, officiated. At the conclusion of theprayers, three volleys were fired, and the "Last Post" was sounded. The chief mourners were: Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Matthews (parents), Messrs G. H. and W. P. Matthews (brothers) , Messrs' D. and H. Thorpe (uncles), Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Woods (father and mother-in-law), Messrs W. and E. Woods (brothers-in- law), and Mrs. W. Woods (sister-in-law). The pall-bearers were Privates Read, West, Wrightson, Tidey, New man, and Dawson, of the 6th reinforcements of the 5th Battalion of Pioneers, under Sergeant Smardon.
