Son of the Hon. Sir James Mitchell, K.C.M.G., and Lady Clara Robins Spencer Mitchell, of "Bona Vista," Northam, Western Australia.
Went to England to Denstone College and at the age of 17, when World War 1 started, enlisted in the Royal Gloucesters and was killed in action.
The Minister for Industries (Mr. Jas. Mitchell) received information yesterday that his youngest son, Mr. G. J. (Jerry) Mitchell, who was attached to the 10th Gloucestershire Regiment. had been killed in France. The deceased soldier, who was about 20 years of age, and was a former student at the Hligh School, went through the Gallipoli campaign, but becoming ill, was invalided away. He rejoined his regiment in France, and was killed in action.
The news of the death of his son came as a terrible shock to Mr. Mitchell, with whom the sincerest sympathy was felt by those who were in touch with him during the day. The Minster left for Northam last night, and will not return to his office for some days.
