Trooper Roy Francis was born on 19 May 1897 in Broken Hill, NSW to parents Joseph & Sophia Francis.
The family moved to Moonta Mines when he was a baby, where his Sister, Dorothy was born in Ballarat Row on 29 September 1901 & his Brother, Bertie was born 2 March 1903.
Roy did his schooling at the Moonta Mines Model School.
He enlisted into AIF on 18 July 1917, aged 20 years & 2 months.
His unit was 3rd Australian Light Horse Regiment, 33rd reinforcement & embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT A38 Ulysses on 22 December 1917.
He died on 19 October 1918 in Abbassia, Egypt from Malaria & is buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery.
His Mother died 12 November 1914 & his Father died 6 August 1933. Both are buried in the Moonta Cemetery.
